Choosing a Games Console? How?

Choosing which games console you're going to buy can be daunting can't it? But really, there's not too much to think about. Let's have a think.

The first issue with choosing a games console is possibly cost. I say possibly, because you may have an idea of exactly what you want and you will pay the extra for that. But normally cost is the first consideration.

The main, best selling games consoles at the moment are the Nintendo Wii, the Playstation3 (ps3) and the Xbox 360. If you're thinking of any of these then it's reasonably simple to make a choice - if you want to sit and play - and that's all - then the ps3 or the Xbox 360 are for you. If you want to jig about slightly or do a bit of exercise, then the Nintendo Wii is for you. Possibly an important point here is that the Wii cannot play DVD's whilst both the others can. This may be important to you or totally irrelevant of course.

And let's not forget price here. The Wii sells for around £175, the Xbox 360 for around £195 and the ps3 for around £300. You may be interested to know that of the three the Wii is the best seller to date.

All other games consoles are the sit and play type without of course, the superb graphics and up to date features that the main three have, but that's not to say that you won't want to consider one of them.

When choosing a console, you may also want to look for one that offers a wide selection of optional controllers like a digital pistol or even an optional keyboard. Price is paramount, of course, but so are the hardware's media capabilities and audio-video specs.

So don't be daunted when choosing a games console to buy - do you want to sit and play or do want to play games with a bit of get up and go? For me, it boils down to just that.
